Not What You Think It Is
from the album "Postcards and Daydreaming" by Dan Mangan.

you would think that keeping up would be easier.
livin’ large and livin’ strange,
you’ll bend yourself.
summertime, it always seems to come creeping up.
keep in mind, you want it to.
when you’re cold and you’re tired, hurt and you’re sad.
for all that you’ve given, for all that you’ve had.
it’s not what you think it is.
you would think that livin’ large and livin’ well
will wear ya down and wear ya thin and where ya goin?
don’t you know i’m grumpy
when the time is right,
when the time is on my side?
maybe you could fix me up,
i could do the same for you and maybe sometime soon,
we can spend some time alone to talk about the things we should talk about.
tell me ’bout the time when everything’s a mess,
tell me ’bout the time - I haven’t heard it yet,
tell me ’bout the time,
tell me ’bout the time,
tell me ’bout the time.
all you need is time.
when you’re cold and you’re tired.
when things just aren’t well.
frightened of strangers and scared of yourself.
it’s not what you think it is.
when you’re strung out,
when there’s hell to pay,
when you’re holding out for some better day,
when your feet are inspired,
when you need some fresh air.
with your fingers on fire, release it all there.
it’s not what you think it is.
